South Indian breakfast mainly consists of Idli and Dosa about 20 years back.Now every one consumes variety of breakfast like uppuma,pongal including oats and cornflakes.Both idli and dosa is prepared from rice with dal.Dosa was prepared in south India for more than 200 years. But idli preparation is imported from Indonesia,because steam cooking is unknown in India.There are many variety of idli like sambar idli,rava idli, wheat idli,kanchi idli and oats idli. Dosa also has many forms like masala dosa, rava dosa,onion dosa and oats dosa.Idli is cooked by steam, so it is easy to digest.It is suitable for Children and Senior citizens.Many doctors recommend idli as a solid food after surgery and also in ICU.But dosa is prepared with oil, so difficult to digest and cholesterol level may raise.Many youth like dosas only, because of variety.
